Nettie Culbreth was the daughter of Joseph Warren Culbreth and Elizabeth Young McNeill. Her father died when she was a young girl. Nettie, her sister Annie James Culbreth, and their mother, spent many years traveling and visiting relatives, as evidenced in her sister's scrapbook. Nettie frequently visited her cousin Newt Culbreath in Florida where she had many friends. 

Around 1912, she married William Hewlett Johnstone and moved to Toccopola, Mississippi. 

Their children were:

1) Kenneth Culbreth Johnstone (November 24, 1912 - December 7, 1992) married Mary Elizabeth Wicker.

2) William E Johnstone (November 22, 1914 - September 1984) married Virginia Leavell.

3) Charles Phillip Johnstone (May 4, 1921 - Living) married Rachel Weed.

4) Elizabeth Young Johnstone (October 16, 1924 - January 17, 2004) married Robert Stanley Loonan.
